Robert Selden Duvall, born on 5 January 1931 in San Diego, California, is an American actor and filmmaker. He is known for starring in some of the most acclaimed and popular films and television series of all time.

Robert Duvall began his professional acting career with the Gateway Playhouse and made his stage debut in 1952 at what was then the Gateway Theatre. He made his television debut in 1959 on an episode of Armstrong Circle Theater. In 1962 he made his screen debut with a lead role in the film To Kill a Mockingbird.

By early 1970s Robert Duval became a prominent figure in American films. His first major critical success came when he was cast in the movies The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974). In 2005 he was awarded a National Medal of Arts by President George W. Bush at the White House. He also has his own star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame.
