Michael Fassbender, born 2 April 1977 in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, West Germany, is an Irish–German actor. He moved Killarney, County Kerry, in the Republic of Ireland, when he was two years old. In 1999 he moved to London to study at the Drama Centre London when he was 19 years old, but he dropped out of the Drama Centre and toured with the Oxford Stage Company to perform the play Three Sisters.

His first screen role was in the award-winning television miniseries Band of Brothers in 2001. In 2007 he made his feature film debut in the fantasy war epic 300. He first came to prominence when he was cast in the film Hunger in 2008.

Through the span of his career so far, Michael Fassbender received 104 award nominations, and has won 51 awards. His highest acclaimed role was Brandon in the 2011 film shame, for which he won 19 awards out of 36 nominations. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award twice.
